L.A. a la Cart (9780986052408) Richard Asperger Books Reviews

Very touching to read. Amazing how, in a few short sentences, you get such insight into Rick's world at that time. Very moving.
what so attractive about a shopping cart? not much but as the author says, it tells a story, that as a society we need to hear, we can't sweep it under the rug anymore
Art and anthropology all in one tome. Demystifies preconceived notions about how homeless Americans feel and what they are thinking. Walt Whitman of the 21st Century? Maybe. And the shopping carts!
This is such a heartfelt look at Los Angeles, youth and homelessness. Truly moving and inspirational. Richard manages to capture the fears, doubts, hope and heartbreak of his time on the streets and turn it into something to share with everyone. Definitely worth a read!
If you ever wanted to know what a homeless person was thinking, feeling or going through, read this book. Richard's personal poetry of life on the streets gives us greater insight to those we so easily ignore. I highly recommend this book.
After reading Asperger's poetry I truly began to see those wayward souls of the street in a new light. I used to walk past them without stopping to think about who they were, where they came from, or what I could do to help. In fact I, like so many others, very rarely even remembered them to be human. All that has changed now. I pass them and smile, offer a meal or a conversation. Even a hug. After reading this book I am reminded that we are ALL human, regardless of where we lay our head at night, and I am living a much more compassionate life. Thank you for your contribution to making this world a little bit brighter Mr. Asperger.
I was absolutely moved by this unique collection of photographs and poems. At first I was a bit hesitant because of the topic, thinking it would be dark and depressing but it was not that way at all. The poems and accompanying photos tell a story that is deep, insightful, sad, funny, touching, and in the end hopeful. Of course there are very serious and real subjects that are addressed but it is done in a way that is promising and heartfelt. I enjoyed this book very much and will recommend it to all of my friends and family. I'm going to keep this book in mind for the holidays too because I think it will make a great gift.
